If you had about 1200 dollars to spend what camera and lens would you buy? This may be really stupid but could you get a good body and 2 pretty good lense for that small amount

The D50 with the 2 kit lenses, the 18-55, and 55-200. Throw in the 50 f/1.8 and you're still under $1000. Throw in the SB600 flash you're right at your $1200 budget.

If you know what you type of pictures you take a lot, you can get a more specific lens for that task.

For example, I like landscape more than anything, so I'll probably go with D50, Tokina 12 - 24 mm f/4 ($500), a cheap or used telephoto lens, and save up for the 50 f/1.8.

Keep in mind the cost of accessories (bag, cleaning kit, tripod, etc)...

No need to buy 2 lenses at the beginning. Get the D50 with kit lens and play with it for one or two months. Then you will be in a better position to decide the second lens.

Most of us spent more for lenses than for the camera body. Take time before decide on lenses. Most people end up with many lenses that they never use. Many excelent pictures were taken with camera with fixed lens. You can learn a lot with just the kit lens. You will be able to make excelent pictures with the lens.
