Thanks for the info Wizzard. Question though... since most of the time I'm using the Nikkor 70-300mm VR with the Kenko 1.4 TC to give me a 100-420mm range... do I do the "AF Fine Tune" with that setup or with the 70-300mm only?

Hi Jack55, just thought you might want to read this too.
Saved Value Only one value can be stored for each type of lens. If a teleconverter is used, separate value can be stored for each combination of lens and teleconverter. AF Tuning The camera may be unable to focus at minimum range or at infinity when AF tuning is applied. Live View The tuning is not applied to autofocus during in live view

Thanks! That answered my question. Now to see just how much my TC / Zoom lens is off by...

Ya, the lens combined with the TC should appear to the camera differently than just
the lens by itself but that's just an assumption on my part... Also, I'm not as yet seeing any problem with minimum or infinity focus but YMMV... ![]() BTW, AF Fine Tune is one of the many features that swayed me to spend the extra cash and go for the D7k over the D90... ![]()

Finally, I just bought the 70-300mm Nikkor lens, what a joy! Thanks everyone for your help and advise. Attached are 2 pictures straight out of the camera, no adjustments, only resizing. Your response will be appreciated.

Nice shots! Some cropping will make that second one better yet.
I sure like my 70-300mm VR.
