I am looking to buy the 18-70 lens and i just had a question about the focal length markings. They are very close to together at the wide end and spread out more on the tele end. Is this much of a problem for people or no?

I don't have this lens, but this is common and it shouldn't be a problem. I normally compose a shot based on what you see on the viewfinder, not what's on the marking. The only time I do check the markings is when I go beyond 200mm on my 70-300G. It tends to be soft beyond 200mm so I try to avoid beyond that, or I make sure have a tripod or monopad.
