it has a warming effect, it shift the light toward the red spectrum. That is what ND filters do.

Putting a filter on your lens degrades image quality. A dSLR lens is a complex system of optical elements. Adding a filter adds to the complexity of that optical system.

In addition to the potential vignetting, flare, and mechanical problems, a filter must be perfectly flat on both sides, both sides must be exactly parrallel, and the coatings must be perfectly uniform across the entire surface. That type of filter is least likely to degrade image quality in any detectable way. A manufacturer's ability to do that, and to be able to attest to doing that is what makes a filter expensive.

If you want to use a filter, make it a good one.

Actually, no. A Haze 1 (or Haze 1A) filter is a basic UV-B filter, blocking glare. A Haze 2 (or Haze 2A) filter blocks UV-A and cuts into violet as well. That results in a warming effect, and can reduce pruple fringing as well.

We are arguing semantic here, you block the blue, you shift the light to the red side.

I uses a old tiffen Haze 1 form a very long time ago. And there have be test showing that the tiffen haze 1 does warm the shot.

I actually bought my Gorillapod for use with my FZ7 although I use it frequently with my D5K +18-200 but with extreme care, always making sure that I have one or two legs under the lens, especially if the lens is extended. So far I have got away with it , you maywell be better with the SLR Zoom but it is bigger and a bit heavier whereas the SLR version fits well with my bag.
As far as the filter goes I took severall shots with and without my filter on and off, on my PC I could see no degradation but maybe more sophisticated equipment may pick some out. However I have found a lot less haze by having one fitted, so the plusses outway the minuses for me.

I would not us the regular gorillapod on any big camera it is not design for them. The gorillapod slr or the gorillapod slr zoom would be my choice. They are bigger and are design for the higher weight. If you have really heavy lenses then the gorrilapod force, it is a very solid unit.
