a friend had this 50 mm 1.8Din his camera bag and said he never uses it...He gave it to me!!
I shot w/ a d90 and can't get it to fire? The f/ is blinking EE w/ no shutter speed? Is this lens any good to me? Thanks, Jen |

Set the lens aperture to f22 and lock it with the little slide lock button, then give it a try...
If that doesn't work clean the electrical contacts and try again...

The EE is an error code that is most probably as a result of the aperture ring on the lens being set to an aperture setting other than the highest number on the ring.
Take the lens off the camera, there should be an aperture ring immediately above the mount. rotate the ring clockwise as far as it will go and ensure that the ring is in a locked position. Then mount the lens on the camera again and turn the camera on. Should work Hi Wizzard, you and I must have been posting at just about the same time. Zig

What is the quality like on this lens on my d90? It's 12 a.m in the morning, so not much light or human subjects to try it on!

I don't have any direct experience with the 50 f1.8D or the new 50 f1.8G but here's
what DXO mark had to say... AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G vs AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/New...1.8D-successor Here's a DXO mark comparison using the D90: http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Len.../(camera2)/439 Here are the reviews for both from LensTip.com Nikon Nikkor AF 50 mm f/1.8D http://www.lenstip.com/219.1-Lens_re...roduction.html Nikon Nikkor AF-S 50 mm f/1.8G http://www.lenstip.com/308.1-Lens_re...roduction.html All in all I'd say they are quite evenly matched and the only real difference between the "G" version and the "D" version is the "G" has a built in Silent Wave Motor and no aperture ring... If I had to choose between them I think for the price I'd rather have the "D" version myself... ![]()

The 50mm 1.8 gets some high praise from a variety of sources. However, my own exprience rendered the 50mm 1.4 to be sharper across the aperture range. I had purchased the 1.8 and was a bit dissapointed with the sharpness. I swapped it for the 1.4 and saw a significant difference. The 1.8 was good, but I was expecting it to be exceptionally good. FYI, I am a chronic pixel peeper and perhaps was being too picky...or I got a defective copy. IN any event, I spent the extra $100 to get the 1.4 and am very pleased.
