I am hoping to purchase a D60 in the next few months with the expectation that I will also buy a larger model in the winter (maybe d90 (or what ever it wil be called)). One I will primarily use and one my girlfriend. I am hoping to aquire a few half good lenses that wil not break the bank.

With the purchase of the D60, I would likely get
  • DX AF-S 18-55 VR F3.5-5.6 [/*]
  • DX VR 55-200 F4-5.6G IF-ED
Does it make any sense to get a prime lens like:
  • Nikon af 50 50 f1.8 d ($150) or [/*]
  • Nikon af 50 50 f1.4 d ($350)[/*]
I have no specific needs asI don't necessarily have a shooting style nor I do not shoot anything in perticular, but like to shoot a lot of everything.

Also looking for opinions on flashes.

Thanks for your help!

No sense at all - They don't work on the D60! :?
This is a better option in any case:;navigator=17

Also looking for opinions on flashes.
While most people would suggest a Nikon flash - I highly recommend the Metz 58-AF1N instead.
This flash does everything an SB-800 does (and more...) however it does come with an extra head so you have more control option over your lighting... ;);market=MKT1

Nhl is sense buying the 50mm for use on the D60 since it won't AF. In reality, if I were you, I'd use what you have for now...figure out how your equipment is limiting you, and base your next lens purchase on what you know you need. You may find you've got everything you need.

In terms of flash, I've never used the Metz that NHL refers to, but Metz is a well known company and their flashes are well regarded. It is about $50 than the Sb800. If you're just looking for a basic flash, the SB600 is tough to beat for the can get them for $180-$200. It does 80% of what the SB800 does.

I actualy got the 1.8 and love it. Not too bad focusing with the D60. Oh, and went with the sb-600, no complaints so far.

Thanks everyone.
