This is my first post, and I apologize if the question has been covered before, but I was wondering why the Nikon AF lens don't seem to work on my D70s. I have serveral expensive lens, such as a 105 f/2,8, and a 300 fixed focal length (I believe f/3.5). Having those lens was the reason I bought two Nikon digital bodies. Also is there a third party lens to compete with Nikon 200-400 lens, for bird photography?:?

Your AF lenses should work on a D70. I have the 105 myself and it works fine on my D50 and D80. There is a switch on the D70 that disables AF...check and make sure that you dont have this switch set to MF.
In addition to the highly regarded Sigma that NHL mentions, Tamron makes a 200-400 and more recently a 200-500. I used to own the 200-400. I used it for sports, but it is quite large and heavy, and I couldn't effectively handhold it. It works well on a tripod or monopod. |

Your photograph is utterly beautiful. Is the lens you spoke of the one used to capture this shot? it seems that you would have to have quite a fast lens, no? regarding my lens on my d70...they do not work on it, auto focus or not, but do work on a friend's D2Xs. We both tried, and I am so disappointed for that is the main reason i bought a Nikon D70. But I had a lot of fun with the 28-70 lens that came with it. Thank-you for reponding. It great to have people like you "in the Know."

The Bigma is not that "fast" as f/6.3 is a 1/3-stop slower than f/5.6. My Canon's is faster @ f/4: http://forums.steves-digicams.com/fo...mp;forum_id=65 -> But then I need the DOF so I don't use either lenses wide opened... |

I do have a Nikkor 105 too, which is buried somewhere with my film cameras. that is the only one I haven't tried on the d70s, but the Nikkor 300 AF,and the 20mm does not work, for sure. I just bought a used D2Xs a few days ago, tried the lens out, and they are functioning (everything except yhe color matrix metering I believe). When my lens didn't work on the D70s, I thought I might as well go to Canon, but alas I am happy the lens seem to work fine on my new "old" D2Xs. Time now to take some shots. Thank-you. I really appreciate your imput.

I just saw an Opteka 650-1300 lens in ebay for a mere pittance. Never heard of it. I know it can't be anything to speak of, but for a lark, I just thought I's throw it in for dicussion.
