Sigma 50 500 non OS
1 Attachment(s)
My first purchase of the Sigma 150 500 ended in disaster, I'm sure it's a fine lens but whatever I tried the one I bought would not focus and I finally had to return it.
Best thing ever happened to me. Starting at 50mm instead of 150 is like gaining a lens, and this one focuses very quickly and quietly. I'm sure the upgraded OS version is nice but for half the price this is a great buy. IQ is pretty good, maybe not in the league with the big boys but still very good for the price.
Here's a handheld shot in Ap mode, F8, ISO 250, at 500mm and cropped.
I think the weight actually helps to steady when shooting offhand.

That's a pretty good looking image, Eric. I'd be happy to get that, especially for a hand held shot

It can only get better when using a tripod

Welcome to the club! ;)
I've been shooting with that lens for years:

... and here's the latest with OS:
(Can anyone tell? I'm a big Sigma fan...)

Thanks Guys, the lens also has a pretty decent bokeh. I have a couple pics from the tripod shot through a window although if clean I'm not sure a window has much effect on the shot. I think it does pretty good on background effect as well.

I agree, pretty much at 500mm one can melt any background away

Very nice pictures and I agreed with Zig the tripod will bring more sharpness to the pictures.
