The package that I am thinking of buying from Cameta Cameras comes with a 70-300mm tamron f/4-5.6 Macro lens. About how much magnification does it give out like 9X, I don't know how to figure it out. I an just wondering becuse I was originally going to buy a Fuji s5600 because it gave out 10X magnification. So I just want to compare. I know the nikon d50 is a better camera but I just want to see how much zoom it has.

A 70-300mm lens is roughly 9X using point and shoot terminology.

How do you work that out, and by the way thanks that has helped a lot, as now I am sure the package with that lens is the right one for me, as I do quite a lot of sports photography for my old school in their rugby matches, so I wanted a camera with a good res and a fair amount of zoom and fps speed.

70-300mm is actually ~4.2X zoom lens, 18-200mm would be ~11.1X zoom and 300mm prime has no X at all.
Zoom ratio can be calculated by dividing the bigger number with the smaller one, however zoom ratio tels absolutely nothing about the focal length the lens have. |
