Hi all,
Just wondering about teleconverters. I Have some sigma lenses and am wondering would I have to get sigma teleconverters for them to work on nikon cameras or can I get the available nikon products. I have a nikon d7000 but am thinking of either getting the nikon d600 as a companion or just having one of the two. If I buy d600 body only then would have both and not worry about any tc because of cropfactor on d7000. Still deciding what to do but if i sell d7000 and get d600 then will need tc.

You can still get a crop factor on the D600 by shooting in DX mode and you'll still be able to get 10.5mp photos in raw or jpeg. You will see the framing for the DX size in the viewfinder if you choose to shoot in crop mode.
As far as TC's go I know that the Sigma TC's will NOT work on Nikon lenses but I don't know if it goes the other way. brad |

There are some teleconverters that will only work with some lenses, and there are some teleconverters that will work with any lens. Who makes them doesn't matter.
The generic teleconverters (the ones that will work with any lens) aren't as good as the matched teleconverters (the ones that will work with only a few lenses). OEM TCs are better than third party TCs. 1.4X TCs are better than 2.0X TCs.

is designed and because the front element on Nikon TC's protrude... This causes it to run into the rear element on many "non-approved" lenses which could cause damage to the lens/TC... I would suggest Kenko brand TC's which are good quality and will work with just about any lens... Have a read here... http://www.digiscoped.com/teleconverters.html Look for the TELEPLUS PRO 300 AF DGX series which is the latest model and will work best with the newer Nikon cameras... http://www.kenkoglobal.com/teleplus.html Hope that's helpful... ![]()

The Kenko TelePlus TCs are generic, and will work with any lens. I had a TelePlus 2.0X, and dubbed it "the Purple Fringe Machine." I had TelePlus 1.4X & 1.5X TCs and liked them a lot. Tamron's, Vivitar's, Quantaray's, and dozens of other brand's TCs are rebadged Kenko TelePlus TCs.
The Kenko TelePlus PRO TCs are matched, and only work with certain lenses. The Tamron SP TCs are rebadged Kenko TelePlus PRO TCs. I believe Sigma makes its own TCs. They are matched, and thus only work with certain lenses. Nikon's TCs are matched, and thus only work with certain lenses.

Manufacturers of matched TCs only list their own lenses as being compatible. Chances are, however, that those TCs are also compatible with lens from other manufacturers.

Hi Wizzard, TCav and DigMe
Thankyou for your responses and sorry for taking while to respond. I have decided that I wont get a tc for now as d7000 already has 1.5x which I knew about. I guess if I buy the d600 I will mainly use for wide or ultra wide angle and use the other for the the reach. In the meantime will do more study and work out later when I get home in Aus.

For "wide or ultra wide angle" there's no real advantage to a 'Full Frame' body. The bodies are bigger, heavier, and more expensive than APS-C bodies, and the equivalent lenses are bigger, heavier, and more expensive as well. The few genuine advantages of 'Full Frame' bodies don't really lend themselves to what you seem to want.
