Hey everyone,
Does anyone have/had any experience with the below lens? Tokina 80-400/4.5-5.6 AT-X 840 D I have used the bigma and it has a little more reach, but it's heavy to hold extended periods. This lens is roughly the same size as the nikon but far less expensive. Yes there is a reason for this I'm sure, but as far as bang for the buck what are the pictures like with this lens? I used the bigma at an air show and I liked it ok... it was tough zomming in and out at times and I know it was a little slow as some of the pics are not real sharp. This lens while not as far is a little faster and am considering buying it. Air shows, animals, generally getting close to things without being on them is what I need. Just looking for some information from someone that may have used it. Thanks.. |

How was the testdrive last weekend? Any thoughts on the lens you would like to share? Rudo |

PhotoDo.com has this: http://www.photodo.com/lens/Tokina-A...4556-AF-II-448
Dyxum.com has this: http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/detail.a...0-400-F4.5-5.6 ... and this: http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/detail.a...X-840-F4.5-5.6 That looks like a good deal to me.

I got this this lens about a year and half ago....Nikon mount. If use no higher than 340 it it pretty sharp..sometimes I push up to 370 and take a chance photos come out ok but 340 I found to be about the limit for good photos. I'm not impressed with it overall, tho it is built solid like a tank. Purple fringing is a big problem with it and makes it not a long term keeper for me. I dont use it much anymore because I get frustrated with the purple fringing popping up.
Some photos using it at my pbase site pbase.com/stockdogtta if want to look...Sheep and Bird galleries has some, maybe insects or flowers also.... dont know how to search just for lens in my pbase. Going to trade in the Tokina 80-400 when able to upgrade to a better lens. Myself, I won't miss it one bit once its gone. Dennis
