I was told to ask this in this forum since ill get better answers, so here goes:

I got my D50 in the mail and its on the way! Now I need lenses for it

Id like to have a general purpose lense for shooting friends etc and then

- for shooting airplanse and cars, both static and in motion
- shooting landscapes
- shooting close up shots, i.e flowers, etc

Budget is flexible so id appreciate any input you guys can provide

thanks!

I'd say, if on a budget, you can go down two roads, firstly and the route I went down, two lenses - the 18-55/18-70 nikon 'kit' lenses and the Sigma 70-300mm APO Macro. oooooooorrrr

A 28-300mm lens offered by tamron. (I think sigma do one too?)..I've seen it used on a canon 350d and looks like a very versatile little lens, very compact and produces well. Be wary when going down the road of one multi-purpose that the larger your zoom scale and the less money you pay, the less quality the lens will be.

Enjoy your D50, I look forward to seeing your shots on here.

FYI If you have money left over, get the 50mm 1.8 prime. Brilliant for portrait and low light shots.

I have a Nikon D50 with the kit lens and the SIGMA 70-300 APO DG MACRO. Damn good combo. I also have a Nikon Macro 4T Lens filter for close up shots.....Pretty good setup.

I assume he means Nikon's own one, which is dirt cheap (sort of) and great for the money.

You may want to check out the Sigma and Tamron 18-200's. I don't have either of these, but they seem to be popular for budget all around lenses. B&H currently have $40 off on the Sigma and $30 off on the Tamron:

Sigma 18-200

Tamron 18-200

Good Luck!

those lenses look really nice. I changed my pckage from my vendor and have it coming with some decent lenses to at least get me started. I got the Tamron 28-80mm and 70-300mm Autofocus Zoom Lens Set

these look like decent lenses although I will want nicer ones but until I learn to properly shoot these will do

I get the feeling though that I will want better ones sooner than later so we will see how it goes.

any other suggestions over the ones I will be getting to add to my collection?
