I own both lens. IQ appears to be sharper at a lower f-stop with the APO like f5.6 apposed to f8. If you are on a tight budget go the cheaper lens or go to bay. The APO goes for $130 to $140 on Ebay.

Good luck

Thanks Jeff. I am considering these two as well as the NIkkor 70-300mm which comes in the same budget range ($135 on Amazon). This one does not have the macro feature like the Sigma lenses.

Any recommendation?

I used to own the Sigma 70-300mm APO DG MACRO and got good results from it. I chose it over the Nikon AF ZM NIK D 70-300MM F4-5.6 ED because of the macro capability. That worked very well but I had to get used to having the subject at 95CM from the camera!

The lens worked well but I had problems holding it steady enough without a tripod so I traded it in for a Nikon AF-S ZM NIK G VR 70-300 F4.5-5.6G IF ED when I had a chance.

I posted a sample of the macro capability here: http://forums.steves-digicams.com/fo...677656#p677656 and here is a sample of the telephoto on a tripod:

Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro and Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro APO have user reviews of the two lenses. The APO scored better.
