As title. No particular budget.

I want at least F2.8 throughout the whole range.

Thanks for your input.

Pherhaps the new Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8 ?
It's not out yet though.
Nikon also has the 17-35 2.8, and the 17-55 2.8.
Sigma has an 18-50 2.8
Tamron has a 17-50 2.8
Tokina has a 16-50 2.8

That's about as wide angle as it gets for F/2.8 i think. Though there might be some primes.

You haven't said on which camera nor for what purpose. For me, if DX, then the 17/55 since it is very sharp and has a good range. If wide angle isn't your thing then the 28/70 which equates to 42/105 in old terms. Both are f2.8. If you are going the D3 route then the new 24/70 must be the lens, expensive though it is. Me? I have the 12/24 f4, the 17/55 (which i use for weddings and it is superb) and the 70/200 for that purpose also, but the best zoom by far is the 17/55 for a general purpose lens, heavy though it is.

The camera is in the sub-tltle; D80.

The 17-55 and the 28-70 interests me. Quite a large price difference, though; the 24-70 being about £200 (~$350) more.

I want something similar to my 50mm f/1.4. But as I like to use that for general shots, it's a bit annoying having to stand back more hence the want for a more versatile lens.
