I have a 50mm prime lens from a film Nikon SLR (AF Nikkor 50 mm 1:1.8 which is about 5 years old. I would like to use this lens with a new D80 and have been trying to research the lens for compatibility. I am finding lots of information about a lens which looks nearly identical except for the name information on the depth of field ring. It is listed as: AF Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8D.

Is this the same lens? If not, would the one I have be suitable to use with the D80?

Thanks.

yes should work. I wouldn't worry about it, as long as it wasn't made before 1970 it should just work.

It was made post-2000 (made in China). Do you know the difference in deesignation between '1.8' and '1.8D'?

The "D" adds distance encoding to the lens which is use to integrate with the automatic flash...

Rather than start a new thread:

I have two old lens from my film days. I'm sure these aren't very good lens but, both of these lens have a macro capability which I would like to experiment with (hence my interest in using them). I'd like to find out if they safe to mount on a D80 and what features I should get out of them? I've read Them Hogan's site (very useful) but it assumes actual Nikon lens (or least an indiciation of whether there are AI or not).

The lens are:

1) Magnicon f3.8-4.8 28-80mm 'auto zoom macro'.

2) Makinon 135mm prime f2.8.

I think that both were bought in the late 1980's.

Thanks for any help.
