Default Sigma 24-70mm F/2.8 HSM?

has anyone tried the new sigma 24-70mm F/2.8 HSM?
I'm thinking of buying it as a walk around lens.... is it a full frame lens or DX?

if there is any review about it please let me know. "only found about the older version". Or anyone know if it's a good peace of glass or not?

Thanks

Here you go. This review compares the new Sigma to the Nikkor, Sony/Carl Zeiss and Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses:

It's a full frame lens (works on Nikon models designed for DX or FX lenses). They used a D3x to test full frame performance.

I purchased the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 IF EX DG (HSM) Lens a few days ago from B&H Photo. I am using it on a Sony a700. It is the best lens I have ever used. I have shot several hundred pictures already both inside and outside. The lens is amazing. I purchased the Sony SAL-2470Z 24-70mm f/2.8 Carl Zeiss Lens about a month ago and returned it a few days later. That Sony lens is $1599.99 and the Sigma is $899.99. I really think the Sigma blows it away. I would say its worth the $899.99 but the Sony is not worth the $1599.99 not even close.

Actually, the Sony/CZ tests better in virtually every area, exceeding the performance of the Nikon, Canon and Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8. So, you may have gotten a lemon with a problem (QC issue, damaged in shipment, etc.). The Sigma looks like a super choice though (and at a lot better price compared to the Sony/CZ 24-70mm).

Thanks JimC and conradcjc
I got a choice between Nikon 105mm macro and the Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 OR Nikon 24-70mm with Third party macro lens "tokina100mm, tamron 90mm, or sigma 105mm"!

What do you think.

You are probably right Jim. I may have received a bad lens. The pictures it took were ok but nothing to rave about really never thought of it like that but makes sense. Like I said I am happy with the Sigma the price is much better and the lens is much more compact. The Sony lens was a giant and much heavier.

Which Sigma 24-70mm? They make a new HSM version and a older version without HSM. The newer version is selling for around $899 now and is much better compared to the older version from what I can see from reviews.

I haven't used the new Sigma. I have used the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 AF-S on a D3 before, and it's a nice lens. My only complaint is that it seemed a bit prone to veiling flare if the Sun was getting too close to the frame (despite the hood), if shooting in the direction of the sun in late afternoon (but, that's probably typical for this type of lens in those conditions). In every other area, it's a super nice lens. I'd probably go for the Nikkor 24-70mm out of the lenses mentioned if budget is not a consideration.
