i use the hoya pro1 filters on all my lenses and i dont notice any difference in quality or speed, just for protection really.

P.S i have a D90 too
sold my k20D for same reason lol

Have you consider a tiffen HT series filters, way easier to clean then the hoya. But a bit more expensive also.
