Default Nikon Lens Rebates???

Rumor has it that Nikon is planning on lens rebates around this time (March 2010). Any truth to it??

Rumors are just that...rumors. The only people that know for sure are the folks at Nikon. Rebates are commonly offered, but are typically tied to fluctuations in currency (the yen vs the dollar, etc). Typically these rebates usually involve buying a dslr with a lens. For example, I got my D300 almost two years ago with the 18-200, and got a $300 instant rebate. These are good rebates (and they are instant, so no paperwork), but you must purchase from an authorized Nikon retailer in order to get the rebate. I wouldn't expect rebates on single items (except maybe p&S digicams).

If Nikon DOES offer instant rebates on camera plus lens purchases, be sure to pay attention to the pricing at online etailers. When Canon offered this type of instant rebate in December, there were some pricing issues at big etailers Adorama and B&H whereby the customer had to buy a seller's "kit" which happened to be priced higher than the camera & lens purchased separately. You couldn't buy the separate items and get the rebate - you had to buy the kit. Since the "kit" price was higher, the customer didn't get the full benefit. Adorama indicated publicly it was a pricing mistake and corrected the price. After Adorama reduced their price, B&H followed.

So, if there is a similar pricing mistake with Nikon rebates, be sure to bring it to their attention so they can correct it.

The rebates are on camera bodies, and bodies & lenses, but not on lenses alone.

The rebates are instant rebates; the retailer handles it. Nikon's website doesn't say anything about it.
