wolverines wants the Sigma 100-300mm f/4.0 because of the constant maximum aperture, as well as the fast HSM.

Ordered the Sigma yesterday. Just got contacted today and told they don't have it. But wanted to try and sell me something else. Typical on-line vendor!! I tried to get them to give me the 120-300 2.8 for the same price but they weren't having it. LOL!!

The search continues.........

Nice try. You never know unless you ask.

This is what they tried to sell me: I don't know enough to know about lenses to know if this was a good deal or if the lens would stay sharp or not with the TC. Any input on this would be fine. I just kinda got the feeling they were just trying to make a sale.

How about the lens i use. the sigma 70-200 2.8 with the matching tele converter from kenko? that will knock your socks off. i use it for nascar racing and night time hockey games.. the picture is amazing and with the converter, you will not lose light and you will retain full autofocus.. the lens will be a 70-480 2.8.. that combo is priced about the same as you paid .. the lens will have a built in focus motor to work perfectly with teh d5000

The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO Macro HSM II ($799) is a very good lens, and with a 1.4X Teleconverter, it will be a 98-280mm f/4.0 lens. There are less expensive 1.4X teleconverters, but for best results, you should get the Sigma APO Teleconverter 1.4X EX DG ($249.)

I don't think it will be quite as good as the 100-300/4.0 for day games, but if you need to shoot a night game, the f/2.8 aperture without the TC would be nice.
