How you find your TC on 70-300mm VR? Mine just came today and I immediately noticed the AF got worse (very slow to AF)? Also I did a quick comparison shots 70-300mm VR with and without TC and got better results without the TC.

* I zoomed in the photo without TC to match the size of the photo with TC (hope I make sense here)

Anybody else care to comment while I'm still at the return period?

Thanks in advance!
The main complaint I have with the TC is at the 420mm range in cloudy lighting, it tends to seek/hunt and not focus at times on moving subjects. So I back it down to around 350mm and go from there. For slow subject or still subjects, the 420mm is fine. Sure, the 70-300mm will be faster and a tad sharper, but I'm happy with mine. I leave it on most of the time.

What I do not understand now is, what's the use of TC when you can take a photo without it then zoom in the photo (equivalent to 420mm) and get better result?

- Is your TC fit just right on your body? Mine is a bit tight (close to double the amount of pressure needed than the Nikon lenses)

Thanks again

That was ONLY on fast flight shots (hard enough as it is) and real low light.
Even longer lenses, (unless it's the 2.8 ones) have problems doing that. I recall I had the same problem, even worse, with the Sigma 50-500mm I had.
Otherwise the TC works fine.

Nice snug fit on mine.
