Nikon USA says it should be available on June 16th. B&H is also showing an expected delivery in June (probably because that's when Nikon USA says it will be available).

But, you never know about these things (as demand may be high with supply short, since a lot of Nikon users with bodies that don't have AF motors may want one of them).

I had also heard that mid-June date. Thom Hogan said that NikonUSA is saying mid-May so I'm hoping that everyone is wrong except for him. :P

I preordered the minute that I heard about it because of what has happened with the 35mm 1.8 prices and availability.

From the April 27th Nikon USA Press Release:

"The AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G lens is scheduled to be available at Nikon authorized dealers beginning June 16, 2011 at an estimated selling price of $219.95.* "

Thom Hogan adjusted his date to be in line with that.

Amazon added an estimated delivery date to my order - May 21-June 18. Quite a window there, Amazon!

It was with much cringing that I just decided to cancel my order for this lens!

As much as I WANT it I don't have a lot of money to throw around on lenses and I decided that it would be more practical for me to save up a bit more and try to buy a used Tamron 28-75 f2.8 or 17-50 f2.8. I think I was probably in-line to get one with the first shipment too because I ordered really early. Oh well.. in the future maybe.
