Default Some Backyard Macros

I was shooting around with the D3s/105 VR/TC-14EII in the yard. I tried the Metz 15 MS1 macro flash, but I forgot to charge the batteries, so this was with the SB900 flash. I underexposed across the whole series. Thank goodness the D3s has some ability to lift in post processing.

Two different sets follow this post.

Default The Ant and the Weed

They are weeds, not flowers. I know that because they are in my yard .

Three similar shots... I couldn't choose between them.

Default More Dandilion Pics

I have to say that I'm not used to macro with the D3s/105VR, but I think I miss using the Oly macros more and more. The lenses just maintain their sharpness better when stopping down, and the smaller sensor gives more up close and personal shots.

I still have my E-3 along with the 35 and 50 f2 macros. I'd have to replace the EC-20 (2x teleconverter) to get me back to the magnifications I'm used to working with.

Anway, couple more dandilion shots with the D3s/105VR/TC17E.

Hi Greg,

Great series of images, even if they were not done with an Oly macro

Seriously though, I've been shooting flowers the last couple of times out and, after reviewing the results have found myself wishing I hadn't sold the 12-60mm.When it comes to flowers, I miss the color fidelity produced by my old Oly E-30 as well as the close focus sharpness produced by the 12-60mm.

I still have the E-P2 along with the 35mm macro. I'm going to take it out and see what happens. I keep looking at what some of the Oly lenses are being sold for on fourthirds photo.com. & thinking about getting the Olympus 50mm f2 macro.

Nice shots Greg. You haven't lost your eye for composition of your shots, no matter what camera you are using.

P.S. (I finally picked up a 12-60mm. That and the 50-200mm now account for 99% of my shots.)

That's a kit that makes so much sense. 24-400mm reach with two lenses. No one else can do that at that quality level.

Nice macro series, the Nikon 105mm looks very sharp and nice DOF.
