Just read the Sigma release.

Pretty impressive.

IMHO, Sigma is really working hard at improving their line of lenses.
Too bad, I just went to full frame.

Isn't that always the case though...?

The minute I choose one thing the other thing gets better or goes on sale...!

I'm curious to see what the price/performance will be like... Probably much more than
I could afford but it's still exciting none the less...

Yes, pretty impressive. On the sigma lens front though, I'm still a little concerned. I don't know about other mounts, but in researching their new 35mm 1.4 for Canon while I see great reviews I do see a number of people with focus issues on the 5dIII and 1dx. I sometimes wonder if manufacturers are making the focus systems so complex that Sigma has issues reverse engineering things properly. On the other hand, if it were just that you would think everyone using such cameras would have issues. Which leads me back to quality control. It may be Sigma still hasn't fixed that issue. Something to keep an eye on.

Looks really good but still no word on price...

Thanks for finding & sharing this review, William. The close ups of the children's images are especially impressive.

Good morning, John you raise a good point. Not only are the AF systems a great deal more complex, but the camera bodies of today give the user a good deal more control over the contrast, sharpness, brightness and saturation. Add to that the fact that the user can also 'fine tune' the focus to the lens attached.

In the hands of someone experienced, these tools offer tremendous control.
In the hands of someone who is not, those same tools can do more harm than good.

The only effective way to determine if a particular lens is right for your needs is for you to yourself.

One of the main reasons I only buy from shops that have a return policy & shy away from EBay.

Yes, I thought so as well...

Regarding past compatability issues here's another new product from Sigma that may help put
an end to needing to send future Sigma lenses in for a firmware update to cure compatability
issues with some camera bodies...

Sigma USB Dock
Micro Tune, Customize, and Update Your Lens
http://www.sigmaphoto.com/product/sigma-usb-dock

Don't know if this will be a great thing or just fizzle out in the real world but the idea is on
the right track... We shall see...

Sounds like there is a rumor that there will be a few more new fast
lenses from Sigma to possibly be announced soon...

I really hope these lenses pan out. If Sigma can get focus issues under control this puts a lot of pressure on OEM manufacturers. The reviews of the 35mm 1.4 have it sharper than anything out there - and considerably less money than the existing Canon lens. It's one thing to produce a product that costs less but performs less. If Sigma can beat OEM lenses on function as well as price that's great. That will help stem the tide of lens price hikes we've been seeing from all manufacturers.
