Default Hello from north Carolina

I have a Nikon d60 and just bought a d90. I'm wondering what the difference is between the Nikon 70-300 and a tamrom lens. Can anyone lend any expertise?

From SLRGear.com:

One of Nikon's better lenses, the Nikon offers superior sharpness, but poorer CA performance, when compared to the Tamron.
FYI, differences in sharpness affect all images, while differences in CA affect only high contrast images.

In addition, historically Tamron's VC hasn't performed as well as Nikon's VR, and there have been complaints about Tamron's build quality.

So there are some good reasons to go with the Nikon, but price isn't one of them.
