Default Tamron hood?

Just bought the Tamron AF-70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 SP Di VC USD XLD. I found it pretty cheap from a used seller, though the only thing missing is the hood.

Are hoods that important? I know I use it primarily on my other lens to reduce glare, but with a lens this size is it important for me to get a hood that's just as big as the factory default or does it really matter?

Hello, spiritgod, you might be surprised how many times the question of lens hoods comes up. I also have the Tamron 70-300, and I always use the hood. Actually I never take the hood off any lens. I may turn it around backwards when I transport the camera, but I always turn it around when shooting outdoors. Hoods help fight lens flare. They don't prevent it, but reduce the ill effects.

Then would it be best to try and find the default hood? I've looked at a few aftermarket and they all seem so small compared to the one that comes with the lens.

Yes, the Tamron HA005 lens hood would be better than the available after market hoods.

Nevermind, the seller found it. Can't wait to try out this new lens, and thanks again TCav for both recommendations on the lenses.
