i'm wanting to get a prime wide angle lense for my D100. so i'm wanting to replace my nikkor 18-35mm with either -Nikkor 16mm 2.8 or the Sigma 15mm 2.8. which lense is better. i've read some reviews but i'm still undecided. they are both in my budget for under $500. thanks for your help.

if you have a d100, you have to consider the 1.6x crop factor

have you looked at the 10.5mm yet?

it is a very fun lens to play with!

I would say the 12-24mm from Nikon. This lens can be used for much more, than a 10.5m or a 15mm lens. I.e. the 10,5mm lens is most cases must be converted through Nikon Capture to get the straight lines. I'd go for the 12-24mm, although it's not really a FAST lens!

Best regards

Klaus

Yes, Bradg he did!

I just have the opinion, that zooms - today - are just as sharp in most cases as the prime lenses. So why go for a Sigma 15mm 2.8, when the 12-24mm is just as sharp and a much wider lens?

And as an replacement of the 18-35mm, he will be much better off with the 12-24mm.

thanks for your help!:-) i think i'll go with the 10.5 and just have fun. another reason is i was wanting a small lense so i can travel lighter. again, thanks!

well, i decided to wait a bit longer ...i do really like having the 18-35mm handy. i originally wanted to have something wider without getting the fisheye effect, but i changed my mind. so i will be keeping it and just expand my lenses and get the fun nikkor 10.5mm. again, thanks so much!
