Looking for aprime 1:1macro lens below £300 and these 2 seem to be the contenders;

1.Sigma 105mm 1:1 EX f2.8

2.Tamron 90mm 1:1 f2.8

Has anyone any thoughts or experienceof these ?

The Nikon own brand lenses don't seem to be anywhere near as competitive on price. I always seem to consider sigma a 'class above' tamron, but the Tamron seems to get decent enough reviews, while people say the Sigma has slow AF.

Also, there seems to be slightly newer versions of both lenses tailored for DSLR's, the tamron Di version and Sigma DG version... yet I can't see much difference between the 2 verions ?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers. Jim

I posted a summary of many lens test reports taken from a Japanese magazine special issue. Take a look at here: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...essage=9891975 The Tamron 90 has been a legendary 1:1 moderate telephoto micro lens for many many years. It is certainly the best of all 100mm focal length micro lenses. The Tamron has a Di version.
