How long is a piece of string? If you buy the 70/200 F2.8 VRIFEDand then buy the TC14/17/20 adaptor you'll be able to photograph most things without strain. This will take you out to 400mm or 600mm in film terms with no real weight.

Look at this for a review with and withoutthe adaptor:-

You can get a nice light 70-300mm G on ebay for less then $100. I like the lens for it's light weight.

-A piece of string walks into a bar andorders a drink... the bartender says: we don't serve strings in here.

All sad and dejected, the piece of string goes out to the alley and ties himselfall up and messeswith his hair- he walks back into the bar and orders a drink.

The bartender says: hey, wern't youjust in here andI said we don't serve strings?!! The piece of string says: I'm afraid not.

I'm a frayed knot... get it?

Have you compared the 70-300mm G to the ED? Do you have any comments on that?

If your not going to shoot any fast action or sports,I would also consider this lens.

It hunts a bit in low light, but for around $200 new its a great lens for that price point. Just make sure you get the APO Super Macro II.

This link may help you decide on a lens you might like.

This is a link to check it out.

I was experimenting with the Canon 20D and curious about a big zoom. I tried a Sigma lense, which was 10X zoom. I liked it. I asked if it was available for the Nikon D 70 and I was assured that it was. Cost was around 450$ Canadian. Still have not decided which camera to buy next, but anyway, that's about the most zoom I've seen that I could afford at any rate. Best regards,
