At exactly 6 oclock meaning lower middle region
there is black area if i use flash on D100
with this 18-200 lens at 18mm
lesser at 22mm and after that it disappears
is this the built in flash doing this??

It is the flash hitting on the lens hood blocking some of the light, Try removeing the hood and see if that helps.

You were using the builtin flash, right? And probably had the lens hood on. You are seeing the shadow of the lens/lens hood.

Solution:

1: Try removing the lens hood. If that doesn't work...

2: Try a separate flash unit. That will raise the flash tube up higher, so the lens does not cast a shadow.

Finally someone else see's this. I have the same problem. It almost looks like a shadow of the top ofyour head. But without any light being behind you. Zoom out beyond 18mm and it goes away. Hmmmm At least I know now, I'm not seeing things. Plus mine happens even without using the lense hood.
