Do we have some feedback on the performance of this lens vs the sigma or tameron 18 to 200mm

I would certainly expect it to be better. It is faster at the tele end (f/5.6 vs f/6.3) than both the sigma and tamron. Also the VR has to make a difference, and build quality is sure to be better. I have to believe it is well worth twice the price.

I use D50. I am strongly interested in this lense too, for it's compact weight covering such broad zoom range, even with VR at such affordable price.

But some concerns:

1. Image quality? Any samples?

2. What is the lowest price?

3. How to test it during purchase? (not mail ordering it).

I just got mine tonight from Colonial photo in Orlando. I have not used it yet but I did put it on my D200 and played with it for a bit. It really pops into focus very fast in roomlight. It also will focus closer then My 24/120 VR lens. I'll try to give it a workout tomorrow and let everybody know my opinion.

Is there a change that VR lenses might become more available in the near future? They're quite expensive compared to the non-VR/IS/OS ones.
