Hi, I current have the D50 and the 18-55mm kit lens; I am interested in getting a better wide angle lens. I am having my eye on the 18-35MM f/3.5-D ED right now.

I would like to know whether the 18-35MM f/3.5-D ED will be a good upgrade if I like to shoot landscape.

Is the sharpness and contrast much better (especially at the wide)?

What about distortion, does it perform better than the kit lens?

Or it's just not worth it (because I already have that range covered?!)

Would I be better off saving my money for the Nikon 12-24mm DX?

I did read some reviews, but they never compare it to the 18-55mm or the 12-24mm, so, any comment from anyone would be appreciated, thanks!

It doesn't look like an upgrade in terms of wideness. You're better off getting a 12-14 Tokina or Sigma.

rey, thanks for the reply.

i know what you mean, wideness is , but the biggest concern to me is the picture quality like sharpness, contrast and low distortion. I mean, i will still definitely get a lense that i already have coverage with but with higher photo qulity.

So, anyone has any experience or idea how all those lenses comapre?

thanks

People here have had great experience with the Tokina and Sigma's 12-24. Probably the reason the Nikon-mount Tokina 12-24 is in short supply.

Do a search and see what others have posted:
http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/s...q=tokina+12-24
http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/s...;q=sigma+12-24

Someone has said that the Tokina is performs at 95+% of the Nikon at 50% of the price. I don't really know how you could quantify it, but from other's images it looks like it to me.

Good Luck!
