Ok, I decided on getting the D70s (D200 is just too expensive), upgrading from old coolpix 995 to dSLR (can't wait!)

now I'm trying to decide with lenses to get. I want 1 good lense for normal photography (party, wedding, walking around shots) and 1 for nature shots where I would like to get in bit closer to my subject.

Now, I dont want to spend a fortune either on all this, so right now this is what I was considering on getting :

The bundle : Nikon D70s with Nikkor DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED AF-S
and then 1 of these :

Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED Lens
Sigma AF18-200MM F3.5-6.3 DC LENS FOR NIKON
edit : seems this might be an option as well : Nikon AF Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G

the sigma however is 2.5 times the price of the Nikkor, anyone have experience with these or can tell me the main differences?

ok, think I've made up my mind, here's what I'm getting :

Nikkon AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor 18-55 F/3.5-5.6G ED (heard it was better than the 70mm one)

Nikkon AF Zoom Nikkor 70-300mm

and spare battery (EN-EL3 ( any better batteries I can get?) and a speedlight (SB-600)

Think I'll be good with this ?

dude, just get the 18-200mm sigma and be happy with it. the 18-55mm nikkor kit lens is not that hot and the 18-200mm range is all you need 99% of the time.
if you really want to spend some money on your lenses, get the F2.8 ones. I've made a list of some of those myself: http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...59&forum_id=66

I am quite happy with the 18-55 kit lens and it generally gets good reviews. I also have a 70-300ED which I am also happy with. However, I would quite like either a lighter long lens to complement the 18-55 (e.g. 55-200) or superzoom (18-200). I have not yet decided which (all of which is no help to you:-?)

Here's a more aggresive approach to a starter kit. Get the 35mm f/2 and shoot with it for a month or two. Its wide enough for general use, its fast enough for low light work, its tiny, can shoot pretty close up, and has great image quality. At that time you will know better if the 18-55, 18-70, or 70-300 will work. If you decide later to get even the best zoom lens, you will always have a use for the 35mm.
Just another angle.
