On my research for a zoom lens topping out at 400mm, I noticed Tokina brand is out there a lot. They make a 100-400mm at 4.5-6.7 and a 80-400mm at 4.5-5.6. Has any one every used this brand or should I stick to Sigma or Tamron? Thanks for the replies to my questions in the past. I don't want to over spend but also don't want equipment not worth using. thanks

I've read the new Tokina 80-400mm is supposed to be pretty good. It's a little slow but anything at this length and price range will be. The advantage the Sigma and Nikon offerings have is VR/OS, though at a cost increase. VR/OS helps make these lenses MUCH more usable hand-held but doesn't do anything to help stop action on fast moving subjects, only a larger aperature can do this.

Thanks for the reply. I'll do some more looking into it.
