I haven't made my mind yet:

The Nikon D50 + Nikon 18-200mm VR looks like a very good combination, I was thinking to my self if the advantages of the new Nikon D80 and the new kit lens will be a better choice. Please help my decision.

Wait untill you see the reviews on the D80 (specifically the sample pictures with high ISO's) Because the D80 so far seems better than the D50 in every way.
BUT the D50 is an awesome camera itself, and it is very cheap, and available right now (except the 18-200mm VR might be hard to find)

I've been having a similar dilemma. I was this close to buying the D70s twin lens kit from Calumet (18-70 +70-300) but took the plunge last night and ordered the D80 body and the 18-200 VR. It'll take a long time to get here but I've more time to save! Or is that starve?

I've just gone for the 'D50 and spend a lot of lenses' option myself, seeing as in the UK the D50 is now half the price of the D80 (I paid £397 compared to £799 for the D80), leaving me £400 to spend on lenses that should last me much longer than the camera body. Just couldn't resist
