Default CP 5000 or 5400?

The dilemma is whether or not to buy the CP 5000 at firesale prices when the 5400 comes out. Is the CP 5000 funtionally equivalent to the 5400? If the lens is the same, and the difference is just added convenience, the CP 5000 should be great buy.

If I have the requirement to take photoes in RAW format, I would think of buying a DSLR.

jonchen,

True enough. However, the 5700 does offer RAW format so why the 5400 does not is a bit interesting. Granted, taking RAW images on a 'true' D-SLR is much faster than on the 5700 (which takes about 14-16 seconds @ 2560x1920 using my SanDisk Ultra) For the most part I use RAW for portraits, macros and any other type of photo that I can take time on. It definately is a benefit over TIFF and JPEG when required.

The 5400 has much much more to offer than the 5000. Also, the 5400 retails at $800, and places like amazon.com are still selling the 5000 for $800.

Default NEW raw is coming !

Read the last paragraph of my intro text:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_...nikon5400.html

Nikon will have a firmware update early next year that adds NEF raw format to the 5400.

now that the 5400 is coming out, and the 5700's prices dropping (as it is being discontinued) would it be a good idea to pick up a 5700?
