Default Which accessories recommended for Coolpix 5700?

I am planning on buying a Nikon Coolpix 5700. What accessories would you recommend for starters? I think I need additional memory (any recommendations on compact flash? Do you need to buy a compact flash reader?). What about UV filter or extra batteries? I am trying to keep the spending reasonable, but want to buy the accessories necessary to get off to a good start since I have some trips this summer and can't wait to start learning this camera.

BTW, Central Digital and dbuys.com both have good prices, about $835, claim to have original accessories and USA warranty, reasonable shipping plus Nikon has the 100 rebate. Both of these companies have good feedback and are well rated by pricescan. Anybody have any good or bad experience with them?

Hi Sheryl,

The stock EN-EL1 batteries last about 1 to 1.5 hours. I'd recommend getting the Nikon MB-E5700 Battery pack for the 5700.

- holds 6 AA batteries
- another Zoom control
- another shutter release (can be locked if needed)
- more grip added

Here are a few more options for the 5700:

- Wideangle Converter WC-E80
- Telephoto Converter TC-E15ED
(both need the Step Down Ring Lens Adapter UR-E8 )
- Nikon SpeedLight (look into the one that meets your needs)

Hope this helps you!

I use the MH-DPB140LI Lithium Ion power bank from MAHA. It has a 3-5 hour charge life when using your existing camera battery. The price is $58.97 at this website:

I bought my Nikon at Dbuys.com. They have good service and prompt delivery.

Default power pack versus extra battery

Okay, I feel really dumb that I don't understand this... the power bank isn't just a recharger? It's cool that it has the car adapter because that is something I am interested in finding. As far as the charge, how does this work that the charge lasts longer versus using a normal charger?

Sheryl:

The battery pack is like a large Lithium Ion battery. You charge it about three hours and then connect it to the camera by the supplied cord. It has a charge that will run the camera for about 2-3 hours. With the original camera battery lasting from 1-1 1/2 hours, the combination would give you 3-4 1/2 hours. I've also used the battery pack by itself without the camera battery and it lasted about 3 hours.

You can also get generic EN-EL1's that work just fine for about $10 each on eBay
