Just Registered! Trying to find location of the backup battery in the 950, also what the specs are.

I gather from the service manual that it is a Lithium Ion rechargable 3.2V battery. The manual refers to it as "Z9501" and it appears that it must be on the PW-1(Lens) board. But, there's a lot of stuff on top of the PW-1 board and I cannot find a PW-1(Lens) board.

This is a pic taken with my other 950.

If it is similar to the 990, then I would expect that the large silver disc with the yellowish backing on it and the red and black wires soldered on would be your backup battery.

What I see on the picture seems to be a piezo element rather than a battery (a piezo element is used as a beeper)

Seems that there is no battery:

Well, the service manual specifically calls it a Lithium Ion battery and uses the battery symbol in their schematics as opposed to using the capacitor symbol. But, untill I see it, I won't really know for sure, will I. It must be one of those 11 or 15 mAh batteries (real small) cause the current required to keep the 8-bit processor chip alive is only 40 microamps. That would be about right cause I've left batteries out of my other 950 for up to 2 weeks without losing the settings.

On thing about the service manual is that it was printed pre-production. There were some mods made after production started.

Also, I've finally figured out that the two circuits called PW-1 and PW-1_Lens are in fact the same board. They show them on two separate pages for convenience and use the 'off-page' connector symbols between the two instead of the normal detachable connector sysmols.

Mikeinkaty,

I have a CP950 but never been able to get on hand a service manual, the only one I found is for the 990:
