Default Nikon 4500 - discontinued??

Hello...
i am looking to buy a new Nikon 4500. Right now they are offering the rebate of $200, which is great, but it's impossible to find an online store that actually has them in stock.
Does anyone know if this model has been discontinued and if so, is there a similar replacement coming? I'm mainly interested in it for the 28mm threaded lens.
thanks!

I've been looking all over for this camera the last two days. One online dealer was supposed to get them in today, but now is not. Why would Nikon extend a $200 rebate on a discontinued camera?
I am surprised a good company like Nikon would advertise a camera with rebate they are not making available. I think it's a very shady business practice. I really do.

Well, I just called Nikon and the woman I spoke to assured me that the camera has NOT been discontinued. She said the demand with the rebate was a lot higher than they initially thought. She said they should start to ship the cameras to dealers in very small quantities soon.
I asked her when it was going to be discontinued, and she did not think anytime soon.
I asked her that if it is discontinued could she tell me, and she said yes she could, and that it is definitely NOT being discontinued.

Is she correct? I guess time will tell...

This ties with what I was told when I called Nikon about the discontinuing of the 4500. I was assured that it was not discontinued but temporarily unavailable. I ordered my unit from Cameraforless.com for $438. Took about 5 days to receive it. Did not know that the rebate was extended however.

I thought the rebate for this ended July 1st? Anyway, I believe Office Depot is still carrying them IN STORE. Not online...

The rebate was to end, but they extended it.

Ack. I paid full price for this camera, but that was a year ago. $200 off would be nice, but the camera is performing well and I love it.

I want to be clear here, as I was seriously thinking of getting a 4500.

I found information about the sale, you can follow this link:
http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/coolpixsummerrebate.pdf

It clames it goes from:
April 1, 2003 through September 30, 2003.

Yum! I can always use $200 bucks!

I'm eagerly awaiting my $200 (I got it during the first rebate... so I'm nearing the time when they should get me $$$)

What a fantastic camera!
