So my 5000 is old enough the memory battery died. In Nikon's infinite wisdom this battery is not "user acessable" :? and you are supposed to take it in.

Anybody know how to change this battery? Do I really need to pay a shop about $100 to do it for me?

Check out keh.com and look for their repair service. Ask them what they would charge to do the job. Might be more, might be less.
