Default Coolpix 5700 lens focus sound

The day I got my camera I took a few shots & don't remember it making any sound.

3 days later I put in a new memory card & reformatted it... like they say. Then it started making this sound almost like a drive trying to read something. So I called Nikon & they asked me to put the camera to the phone. They claimed it was the lense trying to focus & that was a normal sound. When you hold down the shutter release button 1/2 down it stops or when you focus on something it stops.

I figure perhaps it was just a coincidence about the memory.

My question is, does everyone else's cameras do this to? I really don't recall hearing it that 1st day.

Thanks!

The sound is normal when tha camera is in full auto mode. The camera's lens will be in continuous focus mode and will make a servo noise. To stop this, you can use the camera in one of the user modes and turn off continuous focusing via the user setup menus. This is especially important when making movies because the camera's internal microphone will pickup the servo noise.

Thank you... I'm just beginning with this camera & that helps. I'm glad to know there's nothing wrong with it or that Nikon lied to me.
