The auto focus will not work on my 18-55 lens on my Nikon D50. I have no problem with my other lenses. My local camera shop want an arm and a leg just to look at it. Is there anything I might be able to do myself to rectify the problem or should I just buy a new lens ? Woild be grateful for any advice.

Thank you

Peter

I Have the AF-S 18-55 and it works just fine on my D50. I would say unless the lens is defective its not the problem. I would try it on another camera. Do you have a buddy with a nikon. if not take it to the store.

OK I don't want to insult you but you never know. You are aware that the newer lenses have a focus selector switch on them? The camera must be set to AF and the lens to A

Thanks. I know about the selector. I'm sure it is the lens as my other lens works fine. I was just hoping that someone might have had this problem and that there was a quick fix so that I could avoid that expensive trip to the camera shop. I will try it on someone else's camera. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks
