I just got my Nikon P90 yesterday after my venerable Canon PowerShot SD1000 kicked the bucket. I wrestled for days with the decision between this camera and a D3000 with an 18-55mm and 55-200mm lense kit, but I decided to save $450.

I'm having a weird problem with a PNY SDHC 8GB card, it says it's not formatted, I choose to format, it says done and then says it's not formatted again. I may have a bad card, so I've been using my old 2GB card for now.

Here's some of the images I've taken thus far. What a fun camera!

Hi all,
I have been lurking here for the past couple of days, and I must say that I am bit jealous of the some the pictures you beginners are getting. I just got the P90 on Monday and I have been practicing only in the M mode. Little did I know this is the hardest mode for beginners and should usually be messed with when you know what the hell you are doing. So last night I played in the A, and S mode with happier results.

I have always wanted to do photography but never knew what I was doing. I even got a Canon Rebel SLR for Christmas once with two lenses, and um well I let it go to waste. I had no idea how to use it and I would move the dial but when I developed the pictures they were horrible. Also I had no clue what ISO meant on the film. I got all different kinds = 0 I got a little better with my Kodak point and shoot and decided to get the bridge camera. Once I get some pictures I will put them up here.

I do have one question, how are you all knowing your focal length? Is there somewhere to set that on the camera? I might be missing it but I can't find it in my manual.

You can only estimate the focal length on the zoom lens but the two extremes are marked on the front of the lens barrel, ie: 4.6-110.4 mm

I believe some reviewers have estimated focal length equivalents in their reviews.
