Default Macro Lenses..etc

Does it make sense for me to use the TC-E2 (telephoto) when doing macro shots?

What is the best way of taking macro shots of insects? The type where you can see the veins on their wings.

Do I need a special macro lens? I've seen some on ebay - but haven't really researched them.

The TC-E2 is not supposed to be used for macro. However, you have two options. FIRST, you can use close-up lenses to pull the camera closer. Best and yet reasonably priced close-up lenses are Nikon's #5T (+1.5 diopter) and #6T (+2.9 diopter). The problem with close-up lenses is that the magnification is not very high. SECOND, you can use lens revers technique. For example, a TC-E2 plus a Coolpix 4500 has a focal length of 32*2=64mm. If a 50mm SLR lens is reversely mounted in front of the TC-E2, you will have a macro lens of magnification 64/50=1.2X which is much higher than the 4500 macro mode which is about 0.3X. See here for more details http://www.stevesforums.com/phpBB2/v...ic.php?t=15584 My 950/990/995/4500 user guide also discusses this approach. See the "TC-E2 for Close-Up" page in the "Odd Stuffs" section.
