Default nikon help

i used my camera for the first time when my 4yo neice and 2yo nephew were in town, lots of my picts were blurry and some were grainy. i changed the settings to the lighting we were in, most of the time i left it on auto i believe does any one have any suggestions. i would like to get this worked out before we go bowling and chuck e cheese on wednesday

ok wednesday is almost here and its hard to tell a 4 and 2 year old to be still while i take an action photo of them. PLEASE HELP!

Are you indoors working with artificial light? If so it isn't bright enough to get action stopping shutter speeds such as 1/500 or 1/1000 second. You could try the built in flash but remember that it only has a range of 10 feet at the most. Do you have an external flash for your camera? That would provide useful flash range for your purposes. Flash lighting usually can stop action due to it's very short duration.
