Default 5700 turns itself on-off

Hi Folks

This is not what you think i now if the camera has not been operated for a while it will put itself in sleep mode but my 5700 will switch off and then immediateley switch on again, this happens during use. I've changed batteries and tried wiping the terminals but it's made no difference. not to much of a problem photographing still subjects but I use it a great deal of the time to shoot aircraft and it can be very frustrating lining up a landing shot and then the camera goes off. Any ideas.

Is the power switch flaky? If you touch the switch gently while powered on does it exhibit the symptoms?

Hi Bob

The power switch seems OK. It usaully does it when i've got my finger on the release button just about to take a shot, did it twice last Sunday trying to shoot aircraft landing at my local airport.

The shutter release is in the middle of the power switch so it could be something flexing that should not. Does the release feel spongy? A potential broken wire would require you to disassemble the camera which you may not wish to tackle.

Another possibility is a loose battery contact in the camera. Is there any wiggle there?

Hi Bob

Out with the camera again last weekend same problem, did think it was only playing up when it had been on for a time but thats not the case. Batteries seem ok although they do seem to get stuck some times when you try to take them out so will have a good look at that. many thanks for your suggestions.
