Default Nikon Coolpix5400 or Canon Powershot G5. Any suggestions?

I am looking to upgrade to a 5 megapixel. I've read that the 5400 has sharpness problems compared to the G5. How much of a difference is there? The 5400 has a 28 mm WA vs the G5's 35mm WA. I sure would appreciate reading some comments that may help in my final choice. i am also considering a compromise with the Coolpix 5000. Thanks BK

I would choose the 5400 over the G5 or the 5000. The 5400 provides excellent pictures. You might also consider the 5700. Nikon was providing $100 rebate in Novemeber and I am not sure if it still active.

I had the same delima and ended up going for the 5400.

The Nikon has the wider lense, and the canon G5 has a worse case of the purple fringies.

On the other hand the Nikon has a very slow CF write time
You need to pick which faults you want to live with
