I upgraded from the Olympus C740 to 5700. The 5700 is a camera that will allow you a great deal of control over your photography. There is a learning curve to learn how to use the camera. The 5700 functions best a camera when you use all the various controls. The S5000 and the C750 are very good point and shoot cameras with manual controls.

A case of apples and oranges. The 5700 will set you back six or seven hundred. The others.... about four hundred bucks. The 5700 is going to produce better images than the other two, given it's 5 megapixel sensor and a superior lens. Is it worth it? Only you can answer that one? Be aware the 5700's lens barrel is not threaded for conventional filters. I had to order a Nikon filter adapter (hollow tube covers full length of lens) and it supposedly only accepts Nikon filters ($120). To use AA Nimh cells I had to order a $140 battery holder; nice piece although it's a little slippery. The other cameras will not force you into the expensive accessory market. For what I have in the 5700, I could have bought a Canon Digital Rebel. If you are considering the C-750 and the s-5000, I tend to think your requirements might be more in line with one of those two.

The S5000 and C750 also require adapters to add filters. I agree that the 5700 is about a $700 investment vs $350 for the S500o and $450 for the C750. These cost would be adding a larger memory card. The Rebel with a long zoom lens would cost around $1100.

AJZB is on target when you must decide whether the cost will match the camera you choose.

I've read that the S-5000 comes with a filter adaptor ring and uses standard 55 mm filters and I just found out that any standard 67mm filter can be used with the Nikon adaptor. One more thought: If you liked "MYST" you'll like the Nikon manual.
