Default black and white

I just got a D100, i was wondering if you can set it to shoot black and white mode? if you can, how do you do it? if you can't, is the only way of getting black and white is removing the color in Photoshop? What about the contrast? any tips? thx thx thx

I haven't played with digital black and white yet, but I've read that you can get better images by shooting in color and then converting to black and white in Photoshop.

The most versatile way to shoot BW is to shoot in color and use the Channel Mixer in Photoshop.

With your RGB image in Photoshop go to: Image>Adjustments>Channel Mixer

In the Channel Mixer dialogue box click Monochrome on the lower left. Then use the RGB sliders to adjust the tone and contrast. I find I rarely use the Blue slider and just use the Red and Green. The Blue is the most noisiest of the three anyway. The amounts need to add up to 100%.

Best,

Download the PDF titled - "Black and white from colour" at:

This will describe how the channel mixer technque works.
