Not to defend/attack anyone here but the D7 or D7i is not made of plastic! The D7 is all magnesium alloy just like the 5700 but in silver. As for durability I have taken mine to several caribbean trips, including taking pictures with the microdrive in fine hot sandy beaches with no problem, occasional tropical showers not withstanding. With regard to the battery all one has to do is to try a 5700 with a microdrive and see how it's EN-EL1 750mA run out of juice way before the NiMh AA 1800mAh used on the D7(i) with same device (To do the same on the 5700 would require another $150). Features wise the D7(i) also eclipses the 5700, such as theses few examples:

o real-time histogram
o grid and scale in viewfinder
o Manual focus overide after AF
o Wireless muti-units TTL flashes
o Yes - real filter thread

The D7 is also less expensive, not sexy black, but it introduces at least four(4) first and innovative features that no other digicam has... and yes I'll invest the difference for the next better camera that come along regardless of brand!
BTW the same rivalries were discussed between the 5000/D7 in the old forum, way before the 5700 come along...

It's not the cameras or the lens folks... Great masters have created beautiful photographs with just wooden box and pinhole!

It's the creative mind and the eyes of the person behind the tool!!!

Uh guys ... this is the Nikon forum not the "my camera can beat up your camera" forum. Kiss and make up

Be friendly and try to stay on the topic.

Steves

I pretty much try to show what people can do with both camera on the two links. Not one is better than the other (or one's skill...). My point is they are just tool to capture one's imagination...

BTW my last vacation pictures are always on my profile... and I've posted a few over Steve's Forum as well: http://www.stevesforums.com/forum/fo...play.php?fid=8
