I >>think<< Nikon did NOT drop the ball. My guess is that the POTEX lens is too fragile to hold much on its end and Nikon does not want to deal with irate customers who try to hang a pund of glass aka a wide angle accessory on the tip of the POTEX.

Whats a POTEX? PopOut Telecoping Eight X

Default Make sure 52 adapter ring

Actually I have many 52mm filters used for my TRV900 camcorder and Olympus D620 (with 43-49 + 49-52). So do you mean now only one 52mm adapter ring is necessary. But from what size, I mean ?mm-52 mm.

Thanks to Steve, 40.5-49mm ring is a good choice.

Thanks.

thats the best excuse i've seen yet for the lack of threads. doesn't say much for thoughtful design criteria though.

Thoughtful design?? I suspect there are ajr tradeoffs in weight etc with a telescoping optical lens and Nikon may have been afraid that they would be sued even if you bought an Acmoid Pro ultralight wide angle attachment, screwed into the filter threads and the middle element split in two.
